About us

Precision with purpose.

Evening Star has served clients since 1985. We still answer the phone, still know our clients by name, and still handle the everyday work — while our tax, payroll, technology and advisory capabilities have grown considerably.

A local practice that kept growing

ESBS began as a local bookkeeping practice and has grown into a firm handling accounting, payroll, individual and business tax, municipal and nonprofit work, and advisory support. The clients who came to us for a personal return years ago are still here; so are the businesses, towns and organizations that have grown alongside us.

In January 2026, we expanded our presence by opening a New York City office at 12 East 49th Street, 18th Floor. This location brings the same tax and advisory capabilities to NYC clients while keeping our Schoharie roots and team intact.

That combination is the point: the accessibility and relationships of a long-established local accounting practice, with expanded tax, accounting, payroll, technology and advisory capabilities. Our tax team works with returns that involve partnerships, S corporations, K-1s, trusts, rental property, multi-state activity and foreign reporting — and with the straightforward returns that make up much of every season.

Our mark is a simple equation: an abstract “E” joined with a star. The E is our foundation; the star is guidance and clarity in moments of uncertainty. That is how we try to work as well — structured process, steady presence, and advice aimed at the decision in front of you.
